“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth….“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.

You are here to SHINE.

Marianne Williamson wrote:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?  You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the World. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel unsure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. As we let our own Light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

The first time I heard this quote was in Akeelah and the Bee. It was so liberating to me. I felt it gave me permission to be me. I was new to North Carolina, and we were just starting to Pastor. I felt so unsure of myself. I felt like I had to fit into everyone’s idea’s of what a Pastor, CO-Pastor, Pastor’s wife (etc.) looked like.  I was trying to fit into everyone’s box, including the ones I prepared for me. I must say it caused me to question myself and my capabilities. At times I even felt myself and my ideas shrinking

Why is it that? Why would someone trained and skilled to do something great, shrink? Was I really questioning am I enough? Or my own inadequacies?  Or was I really afraid of stepping up and being  just ME?

I remember the day I saw this simple family movie rated PG moved me to a place of acceptance. A place of accepting me, my voice, my ideas and my dreams.
